The Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award:

I am beyond honoured and truly grateful to have received an nomination for The Versatile Blogger Award. In order to receive a nomination, you must be nominated by a fellow blogger and I am very grateful to have been nominated twice by two very talented bloggers. By being nominated you receive the award.

Let me start off firstly by saying thank you to both Spence (@themindberg) and @unveilingthemind

Spence is an amazingly talented blogger and I really enjoy reading his blog. He style of writing is quirky and I especially enjoy the humour he brings into his work. You can enjoy his work at

Unveilingthemind’s work can be enjoyed by following this link It is a very gritty and insightful blog covering mental health and even includes tips on how to get the kids to eat their vegetables. Now that’s something most parents struggle with at some point. I know I for sure have!

A requirement of accepting this award is to nominate 15 bloggers who’s work I enjoy. So here are my nominations:

Many congratulations to all my nominees. You are all truly exceptional and very talented.

7 Facts about me:

1. I grew up in a seaside village and never had actual swimming lessons. So my only swimming lesson as a child was my uncle throwing me into the ocean from the rocks shouting ‘kick your legs and move your arms’. He only did it once and I survived the ordeal.

2. Every dog I had as a child was called spot! You can probably tell that they all had spots.

3. I am obsessed with watching medical documentaries where they showcase surgeries. I can sit for hours watching plastic surgery video clips on YouTube, but I can’t stand the smell of flesh/blood

4. This may sound awful and if your vegan or vegetarian please forgive me, but I once went home to visit my mother and after a lovely day out I drove my hire car into her driveway and found her and a friend dissecting a cow. I couldn’t sleep for weeks after seeing that. Ps: when you grow up in African villages this is not unusual.

5. I have a serious phobia of snakes. For the first 5 years of my life I lived in a forestry village in the heart of what is known as the Knysna Forrest, and my dad being in charge of the village had a fridge in his office filled with anti venom for different snake bites and pictures of what the bites looked like. So one day my mother and I went to see him and he was sitting on a log hunched over. When he heard us coming he shouted stay away from him. This frightened me, but not more than what he revealed when he took off his coat. He had been sitting there for hours as still as possible because a huge snake crawled up his back and luckily fell asleep in his coat. Needless to say I made him get rid of that coat ( he’s favourite) because I just couldn’t sleep and named it the snake jacket. I was about 5 then.

6. When I was 5 I had a pet cow named Blommetjie meaning little flower. She wasn’t little at all and I was the only one allowed to milk her. When my dad milked her she always kicked the bucket over, but would stand for hours when I did. I used to ride her all the time and play with her in the fields. My mum had to check me for ticks every day. One day I came home from school and she was gone. My parents sold her to the church who sold the meat to raise much needed funds and my mum made beef stew for dinner that night. ( you can probably guess where I’m going with this right?!) Mum told my uncle we were having my pet cow for dinner not realising I had walked back into the kitchen. After I got over that trauma I couldn’t eat beef for years.

7. Prior to moving to Scotland I was an actress working in children’s theatre. I travelled all over my country performing in front of hundreds of kids and adults.

I would like to accept this award and thank the lovely bloggers named above who nominated me. I do appreciate your kind and thoughtful gesture!

    1. Thanks Hun! Yeah it really was. I can laugh about it now, but back then I was hysterically crying for days! My poor mum felt so bad and that haunted her too!
